THE WBM INNOVATION AWARD 2008 – CHRIS GROW ENGINEERING PTY LTD
CGE designs and manufactures custom-built mowers to meet the individual maintenance needs of vineyards in Australia, New Zealand, France and USA. View company profile
“
Chris Grow Engineering Pty Ltd (CGE) is a company based in Uraidla in South Australia. CGE designs and manufactures custom-built mowers to meet the individual maintenance needs of vineyards in Australia, New Zealand, France and the USA. For the past 20 years the company has been designing and manufacturing specialised equipment, specifically focusing on the development of under vine mulch throw mowers.
The key feature of these unique mowers is that they mow the full width of grass between vine rows in one pass thereby, saving labour and fuel and minimising ground compaction. This means that under vine mulch is not pulverised but retains long-lasting density, proving more cost effective than other methods. It has been found that it is the density that is more important in retaining soil moisture and ensuring a reduce reliance on herbicide by suppressing weed growth.
CGE believes the best way to ascertain a client’s needs and develop a mower that is the most efficient, is to personally inspect the vineyard. Ground contour, row widths, trellis posts and irrigation systems are all fundamental considerations when the design of the machine is being considered by the company’s engineer.
