Fresh face brings international flair to WISA

Wine Industry Suppliers Australia, the national body representing the Australian wine industry supply sector, looks set to enter an exciting era, securing the services of industry new‐comer Carol Haslam as its new executive officer.

Along with an impressive repertoire of business development, strategic analysis and management experience in Australia and overseas – which lead to her being named a finalist in the 2003 Telstra Business Woman of the Year award – she speaks fluent French and advanced Italian, Spanish and German, which will prove a tremendous advantage when attending international tradeshows, and establishing and maintaining key contacts with overseas supplier bodies.

She will take over from current WISA EO Sylvie Clarke, who has produced tremendous results for the organisation during the past two years, at the beginning of next month.

Before migrating to Australia from the United Kingdom, Ms Haslam began her career in software programming for Avon Cosmetics. In Australia, she created two of her own businesses – Quercus Distributors, which distributed computer products, and Nandina Services, which managed technology exhibitions and conferences, and also performed management consulting.

Living in France from 1996 until 2001, she became chief executive officer of a French company importing and distributing technology products, consolidating her experience with earning an Executive MBA from the CPA/HEC Business School in Paris.

Ms Haslam returned to Adelaide in 2001 to take on the position of executive director of the SA Enterprise Workshop, where she remains on the Board of Directors. She has made significant contributions to community and professional organisations, such as Port Adelaide ITeC, SA Great, VivaSA Business Angels Committee, Foundation Daw Park and various arts organisations.

Until 2007, Ms Haslam was chair of The Executive Connection, acting as a mentor, coach and counsellor for chief executives, managing directors and other business leaders at the highest level, as well as key executives who report directly to their organisation’s chief executive.

Since leaving TEC, she has recreated Nandina Services, consulting in strategy, marketing strategy and leadership, offering advice to the small business sector. In 2008, she created a small start‐up tour operator business, Slow Tours, which runs small group tours in France.
